Protests in Los Angeles escalate! 700 Marines participate in suppression, California angrily sues the Trump administration.
As anti-immigrant conflicts escalate in California, U.S. President Donald Trump on June 10 dispatched 700 Marines to Los Angeles to suppress the situation. In response, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass criticized Trump for abuse of power and filed a lawsuit against the federal government. Even the United Nations rarely voiced a warning to the Trump administration, urging them not to let the situation deteriorate to the point of "resolving it with military means."
Anti-immigration protests are escalating, leading to intense clashes between police and citizens.
Since Trump returned to the White House, he has actively promoted policies such as the forced deportation of illegal immigrants and set a daily target of arresting 3,000 illegal immigrants for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
On the evening of June 9th, a peaceful gathering in downtown Los Angeles turned into a clash between police and citizens, with the police using rubber bullets and protesters retaliating with bottles.
The conflict has spread to Santa Ana and San Francisco, with over a hundred arrests.
The conflict has extended all the way to Santa Ana (Santa Ana) and San Francisco (San Francisco), with 148 people arrested, about 60 of whom are related to the violent protests involving ICE's downtown Los Angeles office.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie stated that many local shops had their windows smashed and numerous vehicles were burned.
Trump dispatched 700 Marines to suppress, California government files a lawsuit.
To ease the conflict, Trump ordered the deployment of 700 Marines to Los Angeles to suppress the situation and assist ICE operations. In response, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass believe Trump is "unconstitutionally abusing power" and have filed a lawsuit against Trump in federal court in San Francisco.
Governor Newsom of California sharply criticized Trump for sending troops to suppress protests, condemning it as dictatorial.
The indictment states that the two mayors believe local law enforcement has not gone out of control, but the Trump administration has dispatched nearly 4,000 military personnel, which is unconstitutional.
Trump said the consequences of not sending troops would be unimaginable, hinting at the arrest of Newsom.
Subsequently, Trump stated on Truth Social:
"If we hadn't done this, Los Angeles would have been destroyed long ago! Just look at the scene of devastation on site, and you'll know that deploying troops was the right decision."
He also publicly supports the statement made by border consultant Tom Homan:
"If local officials obstruct ICE enforcement, those officials should be arrested."
When asked whether he would catch Newsom, Trump laughed and said:
"If I could, I would catch him, although I like him, he is really too incompetent."
The picture shows the scene of the clashes, with a flash bomb exploding on a Los Angeles highway. The local school district strengthened the surrounding police presence, and Waymo unmanned vehicles were set on fire
According to reports, to prevent the conflict from expanding to the school district, over 100 local schools have jointly strengthened police presence during graduation season. Local district officer Alberto Carvalho stated that he received threats from government officials, worrying that ICE enforcement would disrupt school graduation ceremonies.
Not only are schools worried about being affected, but the technology industry is also among the first to be hit. Waymo, the self-driving car brand under Google's parent company Alphabet, urgently announced the suspension of services in downtown Los Angeles after its autonomous vehicles were set on fire during the protests.
Gatherings continue to emerge across California as the United Nations calls for an end to military escalation.
Downtown Los Angeles ( Civic Center ) saw three large gatherings on June 9, severely affecting traffic in the surrounding areas. The Service Employees International Union ( SEIU ) was in downtown when the union leader David Huerta was accused of obstructing law enforcement and faces federal felony charges.
In addition, another rally initiated by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) was held at Los Angeles International Airport to express dissatisfaction with the Trump administration's travel ban. Due to its smaller scale, it did not disrupt airport operations.
UN Secretary-General spokesman Farhan Haq expressed concern at a press conference regarding Trump's decision to send troops for suppression, stating:
"We do not want to see the situation worsen to the point of military suppression. We urge local state governments and the Trump administration to de-escalate the situation as soon as possible."
