Musk downplays the importance of DOGE in relation to the upcoming artificial intelligence "tsunami".
According to Gate News bot, a report from the well-known financial blog ZeroHedge states that tech billionaire Elon Musk spoke highly of his experience leading the Department of Efficiency in the Washington D.C. government, considering it significant. However, he believes there is an even more pressing challenge: preparing society for the rapid rise of disruptive artificial intelligence.
"Fixing the government is like saying the beach is dirty, with needles, feces, and trash everywhere," Musk said in an interview with Y Combinator's Garry Tan. "But there's also a thousand-foot wall, and that's the tsunami of artificial intelligence."
"If a thousand-foot-level 'wife dance' is about to hit, what is the point of cleaning the beach? Not much," the Tesla CEO continued. "Getting back to the core work of building technology, that's what I enjoy doing."
He added: "The signal-to-noise ratio in politics is too poor."
On May 28, Musk announced his departure from DOGE, ending his 130-day tenure as a special government employee under the Trump administration.
Towards the end of the interview, Musk predicted that if artificial intelligence does not first eliminate humanity, it will drive an economy thousands or millions of times larger than it is now.
"Artificial intelligence will profoundly change the future, and its impact is difficult to estimate. But you know, assuming we don't do this, things won't go wrong, artificial intelligence won't destroy us all, and eventually you will see an economy that is ten times larger than it is now," Musk said.
"Ultimately, if we become, or rather, if our future machine descendants, or primarily machine descendants, become a Kardashev Level 2 civilization or higher, then we are talking about an economy that is thousands or even millions of times larger than the current scale of the economy."
