Abstract generation in progress

Recently, it has been reported that up to 538 million Weibo user information is being sold on the dark web, including 172 million pieces of data containing basic account information, priced at about 0.177 Bitcoin. This data includes user ID, number of posts, number of followers, number of accounts followed, gender, and geographical location, among other details.

In response to this matter, the security head of the Weibo platform made a statement. He indicated that the involved phone number information was maliciously obtained in bulk through a contact upload interface in 2019, while other public information was collected through web crawling methods.

The person in charge further explained that as soon as the abnormal situation was discovered, the platform immediately took measures to close the loophole. At the same time, they reported the case to law enforcement authorities and submitted relevant evidence. In addition, the platform has been actively investigating those illegal operators selling this information online.

He emphasized that user privacy and security are extremely important, especially when it comes to sensitive information such as phone numbers, which should be treated with caution. This incident serves as a reminder for people to be vigilant about the risks of personal information leakage, while also highlighting the challenges social media platforms face in protecting user data.

0.177 is even lower than the price when Luna crashed last time.

In terms of data scale and pricing, the cost of a single piece of data is only about 0.000001 BTC, and this pricing model is highly consistent with the typical characteristics of dark web data transactions in 2019. Citing research data from USENIX Security '21, the integrity of this batch of information is questionable.
