AI War Escalates: Apple Invests Heavily in South Korean Telecom Multinational Cooperation

AI News Express: New Developments from Apple and South Korean Telecom Giants

According to reports, Apple is actively investing in the field of artificial intelligence, planning to allocate $1 billion annually for the development of generative AI technology and its application in products and services such as iOS and Siri. Currently, the company's senior management has formed a dedicated team responsible for the development of underlying AI system technologies and their integration into software like iOS 18. This move aims to respond to the industry's AI boom and to make up for lost ground.

At the same time, South Korean telecom giant SK telecom announced a collaboration with Deutsche Telekom to jointly develop a large language model aimed at AI vision. The project is planned to launch in the first quarter of 2023 specifically targeting the telecom sector.

In China, many companies have also made moves in the AI field. iQIYI has launched an AI search function, applying generative AI technology to scenarios such as character, plot, and star searches. The Mac version of WPS Office has integrated WPS AI, supporting functions like content creation and article modification. Xiaomi has deeply integrated AI technology into its new operating system, Surge OS, with Lei Jun claiming it will become the "smart brain" of the entire ecosystem. Additionally, Tmall Genie has announced that its "Genie Large Model" has been fully launched, bringing multiple upgraded features.

In the field of scientific research, the StarWhisper astronomical large model developed by the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has performed excellently in an AI evaluation, ranking second overall. IBM has also launched a new chip called "Arctic," which improves speed and energy efficiency by more than 20 times compared to similar products when running AI-driven image recognition algorithms.

These developments indicate that all parties, from tech giants to startups, are actively laying out AI technologies to promote their application and innovation across various fields. As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see more AI-driven intelligent products and services emerge.
