Ukrainian President's Advisor: Ceasefire is a prerequisite for negotiations to avoid facing the risk of extortion.

On August 16, Sergey Leshchenko, advisor to the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, made a statement on social media regarding the ways and means to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Leshchenko stated that Ukraine firmly believes that a ceasefire must be achieved first, and then subsequent negotiations can be advanced. He clearly pointed out that Ukraine's position is very clear: first a ceasefire, then discussions on other matters. The reason is that if negotiations are initiated before a ceasefire, Ukraine will face a huge risk of extortion. Only by effectively achieving a ceasefire can the necessary space for diplomatic activities be opened up.

What’s there to negotiate? Let’s just arrange a ceasefire first.
