Roam Report: The second largest DeWi network, a new force in the DePIN track.

In this Bull Market, DEP is a must-join track. Today's research is on a high-quality project that is not yet widely known, Roam.

It is a DecentralizationWiFi roaming network, with the current global Node count exceeding Helium Mobile.

For modern humans, air, water, and the internet are the three essentials of life. We hope to have convenient access to the internet wherever we go. Cellular networks (such as 4G, 5G) and WiFi have become the two main ways for users to access the internet in their daily lives. However, when there is no signal coverage, poor indoor positioning, or crowded places that make cellular networks unavailable, WiFi becomes the only lifesaver.

Roam aims to promote the construction of a global WiFi roaming network with Decentralization. Unlike other DEP projects, which mainly aggregate physical devices on a Decentralization platform, such as Decentralization GPU Computing Power and Decentralization broadband, Roam does not simply aggregate WiFi provided by users, but encourages users to jointly build a global WiFi OpenRoaming™ roaming network through a Web3 Token incentive mechanism. In the actual use of WiFi, we often encounter such troubles. In different places such as cafes, bookstores, or airports, every time we go to a new place, we need to search for usernames and passwords, which is very troublesome. In addition, there are security issues with public WiFi.

The OpenRoaming™ initiative, launched by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), aims to establish a global WiFi network alliance. Promoters include Cisco, Google, AT&T, Boingo Wireless, Samsung, and others. In the OpenRoaming™ network, WiFi providers will adhere to common standards and secure protocols. Importantly, when users arrive at a location supported by OpenRoaming™, their device can automatically connect to the WiFi network without any action required, similar to how one connects to a 4G/5G cellular network.

In the actual promotion, good things like this progress relatively slowly due to reasons such as the interests of stakeholders, education costs, hardware costs, etc. As the only Web3 project party among the 11 enterprise alliances of the WBA OpenRoaming™ plan, Roam not only establishes a Depin network that integrates OpenRoaming™, but also adopts Token incentive measures to promote the development of the network faster.

The effect is significant, in the past 8 months, Roam's Node has increased by 400,000, surpassing Helium Mobile, becoming the second largest DeWi network. At the same time, Roam users can also use over 3.5 million WiFiNodes with OpenRoaming™. And the Roamrise space is very large, with a global WiFi scale of 700 million, now supporting less than 0.5% of OpenRoaming™.

Roam Introduction

Roam aims to build a global WiFi OpenRoaming™ roaming network with Decentralization. By using Decentralized Identities (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs), users can seamlessly connect to public WiFi networks, eliminating the need for repetitive logins and registrations. Roam leverages advanced Blockchain technology and economic incentive mechanisms to provide secure, efficient, and convenient connectivity services for users and network providers.

The main advantages of Roam

  • Global WiFi Roaming: Through Passpoint and OpenRoaming™ technology, Roam enables devices to automatically roam between different WiFi networks, providing a seamless and secure connection experience. Users only need to register once to automatically connect to WiFi roaming networks that support OpenRoaming™ worldwide.
  • Decentralized Identity Authentication: Roam uses DIDs and VCs for secure network authentication, ensuring user privacy and data security. Users can authenticate their identities without revealing personal information through Zero-Knowledge Proof technology.
  • Token Economy In Web3 : Roam uses a token incentive mechanism to reward users and network providers, promoting the expansion and maintenance of the network. Users earn RoamToken by adding WiFi hotspots, Node daily attendance, participating in network activities, and so on.
  • RoamMining Rig:RoamMining Rig provides encryptionMining capability and enterprise-level connection security, allowing users to earn RoamToken by deploying Mining Rig and enjoy stable network connection.

Passpoint and OpenRoaming™

First, let's introduce the core technologies used by Roam, Passpoint and OpenRoaming.

Passpoint is a WiFi authentication and roaming technology developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance in 2012, which can simplify the process of users connecting to public WiFi networks, while improving the security and reliability of the connection. Passpoint allows devices to automatically discover and connect to WiFi networks without user intervention (such as entering a password). Passpoint uses WPA2-Enterprise encryption and EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) to provide a strong security authentication mechanism, ensuring the secure transmission of user data.

Another feature of Passpoint is to support seamless switching between WiFi networks, so that devices can automatically switch between different WiFi networks without the need for re-authentication. So, in simple terms, Passpoint technology can allow devices (such as mobile phones and computers) to move to a new location without needing to input the password again, enabling automatic connection.

Then, let's talk about OpenRoaming™, which is an initiative by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) aimed at establishing a global network alliance. OpenRoaming™ connects access providers (such as public venues, retailers, airports, and large enterprises) and identity providers (such as service provider operators, device and cloud providers) to provide seamless Wi-Fi access for mobile users.

The combination of Passpoint+OpenRoaming™** is equivalent to establishing a WiFi alliance network composed of certified devices**, and all WiFi here follows uniform technical standards. Then, users can automatically authenticate and connect between different WiFis of the network when using this network. So, every time a user arrives at a location supported by OpenRoaming™**, the device automatically connects to WiFi without any operation. Connecting to WiFi is as convenient as using 4G/5G.

DID and VC

Now that there is a WiFi Alliance, the next step is to solve the problems of identity authentication, privacy, and security. The answer to this problem is DID and VC.

Decentralized Identity (DID) is a new, verifiable identifier of decentralization used for identity verification. Of course, this identity is broad and refers to any subject, such as individuals, organizations, and devices. Unlike traditional centralized identity systems, DID is controlled by the user: users can generate and manage their own DIDs, stored in a distributed network, ensuring the security and immutability of DID data. This avoids the single point of failure and privacy risks that exist in traditional identity systems.

Verifiable Credentials (VC) is a standardized digital format for storing credentials on a computer or mobile device, similar to real-world documents. For example, if my name is xiaochu, then I may have a library membership card, a driver's license, a university diploma, and so on. It enables more efficient and secure identity verification. VC includes

  1. Metadata: Contains issuer information, validity period, credential ID, etc.
  2. Statement Data: It includes the attribute information of the holder of the credential, such as name, age, qualifications, etc., as well as the issuer's authentication of this information.
  3. encryption proof: The signature generated using Encryption Algorithm ensures the authenticity and integrity of the credential, preventing tampering and forgery.

DID and VC form a Decentralization identity credential. In the Roam network, DID and VC are widely used for secure identity verification and privacy protection in implementing OpenRoaming services. When users access the Roam network, they use DID and VC for identity verification. The user's DID and related VC are stored on the user's device and can prove their identity and credential validity without revealing sensitive information.

Token Incentivized Depin Network

Roam has built a DePIN ecosystem driven by the Web3 economic system. Based on this DePIN network, both companies and individual users can join OpenRoaming™ through the Roam protocol according to their own situations. The simple way is to share hotspots by downloading Roam's mobile APP, and the professional level can purchase Roam's Rainier MAX60 router.

1 IN-APP

Users can download the Roam App, which supports Android and iOS. The Roam App not only allows users to connect to the OpenRoaming™ WiFi network through the Roam app, but also offers a one-time welcome reward for new users. It also has social reward mechanisms such as sharing and inviting to encourage user social diffusion. In addition, Roam, which has hundreds of thousands of users, will also collaborate with other projects, and users can receive Airdrop rewards from other project parties through various activities.
